The International Olympic Committee boasted that this year’s Summer Games would be the most social games yet, with some outlets going so far as to dub them the “Socialympics.” Along with creating official Olympic hubs on social media platforms like Facebook and Google+, the IOC issued updated social media, blogging and Internet guidelines, encouraging all participants to tweet – as long as the messages were “dignified and in good taste.” But that didn’t stop Greek triple jumper Voula Papachristou, whose tweet got her banned from the Games before they even began. She was quickly followed by Swedish soccer player Michel Morganella, who was sent home after tweeting a racist remark hours after the Swiss team was beat by the South Koreans.
