....Two years ago, on July 19th 2010, blogger and journalist Socrates Gkiolias was gunned down with 16 bullets by two unknown hitsmen in front of his house in Helioupolis (Suncity), in the south suburbs of Athens. Greek police never found the killers.
Gkiolias was the founder and editor-in-chief of, now defunct, troktiko(the rodent) .blogspot.com and father of two children. He was instrumental, as the guiding force of the most popular blogspot, to expand the appeal of blogging and freedom of expression in Greece.
The murder of a professional journalist, regardless if he was considered controversial in some circles or not, in a

In my film "DECEMBER RIOTS", some of the blogspots of troktiko related to the murder of 15 year-old student Alexandros Gregoropulos by two policemen in an Athens downtown cafe, are reproduced on the big screen as a long-standing, enduring farewell to the memory of Socrates Gkiolias, the troktiko blogspot, and its massive effort for freedom of expression...
Unlike Greece, the US Newseum, in Washington D.C. honored Gkiolias as one of the fallen journalists around the globe in the line of duty...
