ERT TEMP SHUTDOWN: CHRONICLE OF A DEATH AND ELECTIONS FORETOLD

Greek households pay handsomely through their monthly electricity bills for state TV. It depends on their electricity consumption and living space. On the average it is 3,5-5,0 euros per month plus 23% VAT for a two bedroom apartment. A huge amount of money for a bankrupt country that is paid REGARDLESS if you own a TV set, if the set is open, if you watch the state TV "parrots" (called "parrots" for repeating letter by letter the government press releases), and if the apartment is foreclosed, abandoned or destroyed. 
That is pure fascism but the "...working journalists" in the Kafkaesque universe of ERT never complained, or bothered, as long as they pocketed their hefty monthly salaries. The majority of them thanks to family connections and political parties' pure nepotism. After being fired last night from the Samaras government,  they are crying foul, in plain daylight, expecting the rest of the world to feel sorry for them. They just discovered that austerity measures hurt anybody not just the anonymous"...others" protesting on the streets!

In the last four years, Greece was sold out piece by piece, according to plan, with numerous financial and ethical scandals and atrocities implemented (SIEMENS,  Memorandum 1, 2, 3, 576.000 children impoverished, 1.6 million unemployed, kidney, cancer patients cut off from medical supplies. ATE bank, police violent crackdown of June 2011 at Syntagma square to name just a handful) but the news from the state-owned TV  journalists were omitted, deleted, censored, and twisted. 

State TV, or free TV, was an exclusive propaganda tool to the hands of the ruling political parties never serving the public interest let alone the Hellenic culture and civilization.  The few bright exceptions that slipped through the cracks were just confirming the rigid and totalitarian rules of  corruption in Hellenic state-controlled, self-serving, not public-serving,  TV, web, and radio.

Another gruesome detail: 1.200 of the employees of ERT shall be compensated financially for being fired  and then re-hired back and being paid again making tens or hundreds of thousands of euros!!! That is austerity Greek style!

MY BIG FAT GREEK MINISTER BY GREG PALAST FOR "VICE MAGAZINE"

It wasn't too difficult picking out the Fat Bastard in the crowd of Russian models, craven moochers and media mavens. Besides, Fat Bastard and I were both desperate for coffee and heading for the same empty urn.
(We'd both signed on for Kazakhstan's annual Eurasia Media Forum, a kind of Burning Man festival for Eastern oilgarchs and their media camp followers.)
Now, it is my policy never to mention an interlocutor's weight, nor question the legitimacy of their birth, given my own vulnerabilities. (A would-be groupie told me, "You could do a few sit-ups, you know." Yes, I know.)

But this particular Fat Bastard is asking for it. I had tried to put the belly of this beast out of my thoughts, but I still had a New York Timesstory folded in my pocket that begins:

ATHENS – As an elementary school principal, Leonidas Nikas is used to seeing children play, laugh and dream about the future. But recently he has seen something altogether different, something he thought was impossible in Greece: children picking through school trash cans for food; needy youngsters asking playmates for leftovers; and an 11-year-old boy, Pantelis Petrakis, bent over with hunger pains.
Fat Bastard – or Theodoros Pangalos, thinks the little Greek kiddies should stop belly-aching. Pangalos, as you can see from the photo below, is not bent over with hunger pains. In fact, he looks more likely to be bent over with labour pains, but in truth he probably just can't bend over at all.
Pangalos is best known for blaming the working people of Greece for the horror and the hunger among the ruins of what was once Greece's economy. However, it is, of course, not his fault; until last year, and through the core of the crisis, he was just Greece's Deputy Prime Minister – why should he be held accountable for anything?
Minister Pangalos is much loved by Europe's banking chieftains, by vulture speculators and by Prussian President Angela Merkel because they've got themselves a gigantic Greek who will mouth their mantra: that his nation's sudden collapse can be blamed squarely on olive-pit-spitting, lazy-ass Greeks who won't work more than three hours a week, then retire while they're still teenagers to swill state-subsidised ouzo.
Pangalos leads the Fifth Column of Greeks calling to accept Germany's terms of economic surrender: austerity, meaning cuts in food allowances, in pensions, in jobs. As of this week, more than one in four Greeks (27 percent) are out of work.
While we hunted for caffeine, Fat Bastard told me that anyone who complains about the austerity diktat, "Is a fascist or a communist or a conspiracy theorist." He didn't tell me which of these three categories the 11-year-old kids complaining of hunger pains fell into.
Just for the record, those Greeks who can get a job, work 619 more hours per year (see table) than the average German (and way, way more than Britons or Americans as well).

But in the world according to Pangalos, Merkel and poobahs of the media, Greece went to hell in a handbag because the entire nation suddenly turned into work-shirking grifters.
But there's another explanation for wrack and ruin: Greece is a crime scene. And its working people are not the perpetrators of the crime, they are the victims – scammed, defrauded, their national industries looted and their treasury drained by financial flim-flam.
In 2001, Greece dropped the drachma for the euro. The drachma was good enough for Aristotle and very good for tourism, Greece's main industry. But when sun-and-fun was re-priced in euros, tourists swam across the Adriatic for kofte meatballs priced in dirt-cheap Turkish lira. Pre-euro tourist visits to Greece outnumbered those to Turkey by millions; but by last year, it was the just the opposite, with two-thirds of tourists tanning in Turkey.
With its Treasury bleeding hard currency, the government of Minister Pangalos' PASOK joined together with the opposition in a complex international currency kiting operation to conceal the losses from the public and, most importantly, from the European Central Bank.
Why the cover-up of the deficit? The answer is that the euro is more than a currency: it is a straitjacket, a set of constricting rules that, for example, prohibit any euro nation from running a deficit of more than 3 percent of GDP.
That's impossible in a recession – not to mention plain insane – as it requires cutting public spending when spending is needed most. The USA, China, Brazil, India – the nations that pulled the world from depression's brink – all ran deficits way over the nutty 3 percent cap. I asked finance wiz Nomi Prins to calculate America's debt-to-GDP ratio using euro rules, and she estimates that Obama's deficits are now way down from recession's peak – to 10.2 percent of GDP.
Greece, fearing expulsion from the euro loony bin, turned to Goldman Sachs. For a mere $400 million in fees, plus golden sacks of ill-gotten trading gain, the investment bank was willing to cook the nation's books via a complex set of derivatives transactions. Since the con was busted open in 2009, the Greek public has had to pay cheated bondholders a premium to insure against default of the nation's debts. The credit default insurance costs an average of $14,000 (£9,218) per family per year.
When I was a racketeering investigator working with the US Justice Department, in the days when we pretended America still had justice, we would have called the derivatives trick a "fraud on the market". We'd handcuff the perpetrators, lock 'em up, or, at the least, make them cough up their purloined profits.
So, should Goldman pay up? Not according to Pangalos, because – in the worldview of our rulers – the victims of the scam are as guilty as the victimisers. Pangalos even put it into a famous (or infamous) motto: mazi-ta-fagame. That's Greek for "We all ate it together".
But the visible evidence suggests Pangalos, not Pantelis – the kid doubled over with stomach pain – ate all the pies.
The mass privatisation of public property at wiener schnitzel prices has German speculators dipping in their spoons as well, though the Federation of German industry is complaining about Greece's own "princes" gobbling up the assets.
I was going to invite Minister Pangalos to lunch to test his theories, but he left in a pachydermic huff when I asked him about Geir Haarde. Haarde, the former Prime Minister of Iceland, was found guilty of concealing his knowledge of the trickery used by Iceland's banks before they melted that nation's finances.
I asked Fat Bastard, "Do you think you should be in prison for" similar conduct in the Greek government?
Maybe that's why Minister Pangalos didn't want to go to lunch with me.

IMMIGRATION REFORM BILL APPROVED FROM SENATE JUDICIARY COMMITEE

WASHINGTON -- The Senate Judiciary Committee approved the bipartisan "gang of eight" immigration bill on Tuesday in a 13 to 5 vote after a marathon final day of markup that stretched into the evening.

All Democrats on the committee, along with Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) and gang of eight Republican Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.), voted in favor of the bill, which will now go to the Senate floor. Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), who voted against the bill out of committee, said he would support allowing it to move forward for debate -- rather than joining a filibuster -- once on the Senate floor. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), who was also a "no" vote, said if it had been between his vote and moving the bill to the Senate floor, he would have voted in favor.

The crowd in the room erupted into applause when the final vote tally was read, rising to their feet and chanting "Yes we can!" then "Si se puede!"

Democrats seemed equally pleased to vote the bill out of committee.

"The dysfunction in our current immigration system affects all of us and it is long past time for reform," Judiciary Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) said before the bill's passage. "I hope that our history, our values, and our decency can inspire us finally to take action. We need an immigration system that lives up to American values and helps write the next great chapter in American history by reinvigorating our economy and enriching our communities."

Of 300 amendments offered to the gang of eight immigration bill, the committee debated more than 200.

The bill came out of months of work from the gang of eight, which in addition to Graham and Flake includes Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.), Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) and Bob Menendez (D-N.J.). It includes a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants, a streamlined legal immigration process, tougher interior enforcement and increased border security.

".. Ξέρετε, ο άνθρωπος έχει και μια φαντασία. Μπορούσε κανείς να γκρεμίζει τα εξαμβλώματα και να προκύπτουν από κάτω παλιές μορφές του τόπου. Νομίζω πως γεωγραφήθηκε αρκετά η αφοσίωσή μου στην Κυψέλη, αν έχετε κάτι άλλο ρωτήστε με...

Μην ξεχνάμε πως οι ξένοι που βρέθηκαν εδώ ήταν λόγω της φτώχειας των χωρών εκείνων. Ηλθαν να ζήσουν εδώ πέρα. Οι ξένοι (οι Αλβανοί τουλάχιστον) επιστρέφουν βέβαια στις πατρίδες τους. Το μόνο που κάνω για την Κυψέλη είναι να ζω ακόμη εκεί.

Θα πρέπει να το πούμε πάντως και αυτό, πρέπει να πω όμως ότι είναι και ένας συνεχής κίνδυνος, κινδυνεύουν οι ντόπιοι από κλοπές φοβερές ακόμη και στον δρόμο.

Σας λέω ένα πάρα πολύ συγκεκριμένο πράγμα: Πυθίας 42 ήταν το πατρικό μου όπου ζει σε ένα διαμέρισμα η αδελφή μου. Δύο φορές την πήγαν στο νοσοκομείο, δύο φορές την παραμόρφωσε ένας έξω από το σπίτι διότι δεν έβρισκε τα κλειδιά για να μπει μέσα...

Την πρώτη φορά και εκείνη και τον άνδρα της επί δύο ώρες τους έκλεισαν το στόμα, τους έκλεισαν στο μπάνιο και έκλεβαν το σπίτι ανενόχλητοι.

Περιορισμένα περιστατικά ναι αλλά ο φόβος είναι απεριόριστος. Δεν θέλω να πω ότι οι ξένοι της Κυψέλης είναι και ληστές.

Πάντως εάν πάει κανείς στην πλατεία της Κυψέλης, δεν έχει χώρο να πατήσει. Στα δε παγκάκια κάθονται άνθρωποι ξένοι - πολύ φυσικό βέβαια πώς να περάσουν την ώρα τους - και παίζουν κάτι δικά τους χαρτιά και με χαρτάκια γεμίζει ο τόπος.

Βεβαίως οι Κυψελιώτες έχουν εκτοπιστεί, αυτό είναι μια πραγματικότητα, βεβαίως τους αγάπαμε τους ξένους αφού φύγαν από εκεί για έλθουν και να ζήσουν να δουλέψουν αλλά κάπως πρέπει να μοιραστούν οι χώροι.

Παίζαμε πεντόβολα ώρες ολόκληρες στα σκαλάκια του σπιτιού. Ητανε μια άλλη κατάσταση, την νοσταλγώ πάρα πολύ και δεν ξέρω αν αυτός είναι ο λόγος που δεν ακολούθησα την κόρη μου στο προάστιο ή απλά ο φόβος να προσαρμοστώ στο καινούριο.

Μακάρι να μην υπήρχε αυτό το θέμα της πείνας, μακάρι οι φυλές του κόσμου να ήταν ανακατωμένες, εδώ πια είναι ένα πρόβλημα πώς συντηρούνται αυτοί οι άνθρωποι.

BOSTON MARATHON HELP GUIDE (RELIEF GROUPS FOR THE VICTIMS)

Rescue organizations are tending to the tragic scene at the Boston Marathon where at least three people were killed and more than 176 were injured after two explosions rocked the sporting event Monday.

About three hours after the winners crossed the finish line, a loud explosion went off just before the bridge that marks the finish line and another explosion was heard moments later, according to the Associated Press. The extent of the injuries remains to be seen, but an ER nurse at Carney Hospital in Dorchester told AOL that “this is awful” and that there are “amputations everywhere.”

The American Red Cross of Eastern Massachusetts has opened a disaster operation center and is asking locals to notify loved ones of their whereabouts on theorganization’s website.

The final mile of the marathon had been dedicated to the victims of the Newtown massacre , according to CBS and a group of nine racers from the area were running to raise funds for the Newtown Strong Fund, which helps the victims’ siblings pay for their education. Joanne Flaminio, Boston Athletic Association president, told the news outlet that the race had “special significance” considering that it spanned 26.2 miles and 26 people were killed during the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

ΠΟΥ ΑΠΟΣΚΟΠΕΙ H EΓΚΛΗΜΑΤΙΚΗ ΙΣΤΟΡΙΚΗ "ΑΓΝΟΙΑ" ΤΟΥ ΔΗΜΑΡΧΟΥ ΘΕΣΣΑΛΟΝΙΚΗΣ;

Ερωτήματα και προβληματισμό προκαλεί πάλι ο Δήμαρχος Θεσσαλονίκης κ. Μπουτάρης με τα όσα δηλώνει σε πρόσφατη συνέντευξή του.

«Δεν πρέπει – λέει- να ξεχνά κανείς πως στην Θεσσαλονίκη κηρύχθηκε η επανάσταση των Νεοτούρκων και συνεπώς ιδρύθηκε η Τουρκική Δημοκρατία».

• Φιλοδοξεί και σχεδιάζει μήπως την «καθιέρωση» και «ανάδειξη» της Θεσσαλονίκης σε «Λίκνο» της Τουρκικής Δημοκρατίας;
• Οραματίζεται μήπως και την διοργάνωση επετειακών πανηγυρικών εκδηλώσεων με την συμμετοχή Τούρκων επισήμων, Ελληνοτουρκικούς εναγκαλισμούς και παρελάσεις Τουρκικών στρατιωτικών τμημάτων στους δρόμους της συμπρωτεύουσας;
• Ποιά επανάσταση «δεν πρέπει να ξεχνά κανείς» και ποια Τουρκική δημοκρατία εννοεί ο κ. Δήμαρχος;
• Εννοεί το Νεοτουρκικό κομιτάτο «Ένωση και πρόοδος» που έβαλε πρόγραμμα και στόχο τον δια πυρός και σιδήρου εκτουρκισμό όλων των εθνοτικών ομάδων της οθωμανικής αυτοκρατορίας;

Δεν διάβασε δεν άκουσε ποτέ ο κ. Μπουτάρης για τις γενοκτονικές σφαγές τους απαγχονισμούς τις λεηλασίες και τα όλεθρο που εξαπέλυσαν οι Νεότουρκοι στην Μικρά Ασία, τον Πόντο, και στην Θράκη με σύνθημα «ένα κράτος μια Θρησκεία, μια γλώσσα»:

Για τις Ναζιστικές μεθόδους και τα «τάγματα εργασίας» (αμελέ ταμπουρού) –τάγματα θανάτου- που εφάρμοσαν οι νεαροί βλαστοί της «Τουρκικής Δημοκρατίας» με την καθοδήγηση του Γερμανού στρατηγού Λίμαν φον Σαντερς στρατολογώντας βιαίως εκατοντάδες χιλιάδες Ελληνορθόδοξους να σπάζουν πέτρες στα βάθη της Ανατολής γυμνοί ρακένδυτοι και τρεφόμενοι με ότι περίσσευε από την τροφή των ζώων.

«Με το σύστημα που σας προτείνω ο θάνατος τους είναι βέβαιος. Αλλά πριν πεθάνουν θα προσφέρουν υπηρεσίες. Οι γυναίκες τους δεν θα γεννούν και η μισητή αυτής ράτσα των Ελλήνων θα ξεκληριστεί και θα χαθεί σε μια γενιά. Αλλά και οι περιουσίες τους θα περιέλθουν στα χέρια των Τούρκων»

Αυτές ήταν οι προτάσεις του σατανικού Γερμανού στις εκθέσεις που υπέβαλε στην κυβέρνηση των Νεοτούρκων.

Εκατομμύρια Αρμενίων σφαγιάστηκαν και αφανίστηκαν. Η Γαλλία πρόσφατα αναγνώρισε την Γενοκτονία των Αρμενίων.

Ο καθηγητής Πολυχρόνης Ενεπεκίδης μετέφρασε και δημοσίευσε από τα απόρρητα αρχεία του Βερολίνου και της Βιέννης τις εντολές της Τουρκικής Κυβέρνησης προς τους Βαλίδες και τους διοικητές της Αστυνομίας να εξαφανίσουν του πληθυσμούς εκατοντάδων χωριών και πόλεων.

Σύμφωνα με επίσημα στοιχεία του Ελληνικού Υπουργείο Εξωτερικών «ο αριθμός των Ελλήνων που θανατώθηκαν μόνο στο Πόντο ανέρχεται σε 303.287, 815 κοινότητες, 874 εκκλησίες και 758 σχολεία ισοπεδώθηκαν»

Οι κυβερνήσεις και ο ευρωπαϊκός τύπος ξεσηκώνεται.

Ο πρωθυπουργός της Αγγλίας Λόιντ Τζώρτζ καταγγέλλει «τώρα όπως και πριν οι Τούρκοι γράφουν την ιστορία τους με αίμα εξαλείφοντας τους χριστιανικούς πληθυσμούς με θανάτους και εξορίες».

Αυτές τις μεθόδους τις εφάρμοσαν από το 1914, πέντε χρόνια πριν να πατήσει Έλληνας στρατιώτης στην Μικρά Ασία (Μαΐου 1919)

Αυτό ως επισήμανση και απάντηση σε κάποιους που επιχειρούν σκόπιμα συμψηφισμούς λέγοντας «τους κάνανε πολλά οι στρατιώτες μας και για αυτό μας κάνανε και οι Τούρκοι όσα μας κάνανε».

Για να μην ξεχνά λοιπόν κανείς πως στην Θεσσαλονίκη ιδρύθηκε η «Τουρκική Δημοκρατία» όπως υπερηφανεύεται να δηλώνει ο Δήμαρχος της Συμπρωτεύουσας του αφιερώνω τιμητικά ένα απόσπασμα από το βιβλίου του Αμερικανού διπλωμάτη και συγγραφέα George Horton με τίτλο «η Μάστιγα της Ασίας».

«Αμέσως μετά την πτώση του Αβδούλ Χαμίτ μετατέθηκα στην Θεσσαλονίκη. Η πτώση του «Τυράννου» είχε δημιουργήσει πανηγυρική ατμόσφαιρα όλοι ήταν βέβαιοι ότι οι υπήκοοι της Τουρκίας είχαν επιτέλους ενωθεί και ο καθ’ ένας θα έχει την πλήρη ελευθερία να λατρεύει τον θεό του και να ασχολείται με ειρηνικά έργα.

Πολύ γρήγορα όμως Έλληνες, Βούλγαροι και Σέρβοι απογοητεύτηκαν. Ο διωγμός έκανε την πρώτη του εμφάνιση στην Μακεδονία με την μορφή φόνων με ανησυχητική συχνότητα και θύματα προκρίτους Χριστιανικών κοινοτήτων που τους δολοφονούσαν συνήθως στο κατώφλι του σπιτιού τους.

«Στους δρόμους της Θεσσαλονίκης έκαναν την εμφάνισή τους σμήνη από απελπισμένες χωρικές, ερχόντουσαν να δουν τον Βαλή για να πάρουν νέα για τους άντρες, τους γιούς ή τους αδελφούς τους. Οι απαντήσεις που έπαιρναν ήταν σαρδόνιες. «Φαίνεται πως το έσκασε και σας εγκατέλειψε» ή «Μάλλον έφυγε για την Αμερική».

Ύστερα από λίγο βοσκοί και άλλοι περαστικοί άρχισαν να φέρνουν νέα για πτώματα στα φαράγγια, στις ρεματιές στα βουνά και στα δάση.

Οι παμπάλαια μεθόδους διακυβέρνησης των τούρκων ή τρομοκρατία είχε μπει σε ενέργεια για τα καλά».

Επειδή ο κ. Δήμαρχος Θεσσαλονίκης στην συνέντευξη του υπερηφανεύτηκε πως στην κοσμοπολίτικη Θεσσαλονίκη όταν απελευθερώθηκε το (1912) κυκλοφορούσαν 12 εφημερίδες.

Ας δούμε τι έγραφε μια από αυτές η «Νέα Αλήθεια» την 10η Ιουλίου 1910 επέτειο των δύο ετών από την διακήρυξη του περίφημου «συντάγματος» των Νεοτούρκων.

«Πριν καλά – καλά συμπληρωθούν δύο χρόνια από την εξαγγελία του Συντάγματος… κάθε μέρα βρισκόμαστε μπροστά σε μια ζωντανή εικόνα διωγμού και εξόντωσης έχουμε το

δικαίωμα να ρωτήσουμε τι ακριβώς έχουμε κάνει εμείς οι Οθωμανοί Έλληνες και πρέπει να διωχθούμε με τέτοιο τρόπο».

«Μας δόθηκαν υποσχέσεις ότι τα δικαιώματα μας θα μείνουν ανέγγιχτα, παρ’ όλα αυτά ψηφίζονται νόμοι και μας αφαιρούνται εκκλησίες, σχολεία, νεκροταφεία. Ιερείς και δάσκαλοι ρίχνονται στις φυλακές πολίτες δέρνονται και από παντού ακούγονται θρήνοι και οδυρμοί».

Δυστυχώς παρά τον πλούτο των ιστορικών πηγών που προσφέρονται στον οποιοδήποτε μελετητή διατυπώνονται στις μέρες μας απόψεις και προτάσεις που στοχεύουν στην κατάργηση της εθνικής μνήμης και την ανασκολόπιση της Ελληνικής Ιστορίας.

Σε τούτους τους δύσκολους καιρούς με τις ηθικές, πολιτικές και πολιτισμικές μας αξίες σε πτώση, την οικονομική καταρράκωση και τους κινδύνους για την ίδια την εθνική μας κυριαρχία, κύκλοι, ομάδες και οργανώσεις σε συνεργασία με διεθνείς οργανισμούς και ξένα κέντραεπιδιώκουν πάλι «να εξαφανίσουν τη μισητή ράτσα των Ελλήνων».

Ο πατριωτικός λόγος ενοχοποιείται και κάθε αναφορά σε Ελλάδα – πατρίδα – έθνος χαρακτηρίζεται ρατσιστική και φασιστική.

Δυστυχώς ο μεγαλύτερος κίνδυνος που αντιμετωπίζει η χώρα είναι από τα μέσα και όχι από τα έξω.

Με την σκέψη πως η απάθεια δεν είναι επιλογή καλά είναι να θυμόμαστε πάντα τα λόγια ενός μεγάλου Έλληνα, Δημοκράτη και Αγωνιστή: 

«Ο κυρίαρχος στόχος των Ελλήνων ανεξάρτητα από ιδεολογίες και κόμματα θα πρέπει να είναι ο πατριωτισμός»Μίκης Θεοδωράκης (21-12-2009).

ΥΓ. Αν αυτά που σκέφτεται και δηλώνει ο Δήμαρχος Θεσσαλονίκης περί «νεοτουρκικής Δημοκρατίας αλλά και προτείνει για τον σφαγέα του Ελληνισμού Μουσταφά Κεμάλ – να δοθεί το όνομα του σε δρόμο της συμπρωτεύουσας – τα δήλωνε και τα πρότεινε κάποιος Δήμαρχος στο Ισραήλ για το ναζιστικό κόμμα και τον ηγέτη του θα ‘θελα να ξέρω ποια θα ήταν η τύχη του.
