That's what happened to me on Tuesday, while I was working, an impressive tsunami of citizens at Neptuno Square howled for their right to dissent with the politicians who claim to represent them, as they were in session in Congress. The cries of this human tide, encircled and at times beaten and dragged by the 1,300 strong riot police at Neptuno Square, covered the front pages of newspapers around the world. Yet they have not managed to catch the attention of [Prime Minister] Mariano Rajoy in New York. During his address to the Americas Society/Council of the Americas, Rajoy turned to his habit of editing reality according to his whim, thanking the "silent majority of Spaniards who didn't protest."

Mr. Rajoy, I am part of that silent majority who didn't protest on September 25th, and I'm imploring you not to distort or appropriate my silence.

The fact that I was not physically present at Neptuno Square does not mean that I'm not outraged by the police attacks, the government delegate overreaction, the state-run TV network's manipulation of images, or about the cocky attitude of state agents in the Atocha Station (far removed from Congress) who, without identifying themselves, intimidated travelers and prohibited photographers from doing their work. I'm outraged, too, about the determination that we Madrilenians, upon finding our city besieged since morning, would turn against the protesters. (Mission failed: we Madrilenians suffer in silence or screaming, do not believe in the people who govern us from City Hall or in our Autonomous Community, people elected by fate because they were included in a closed electoral list).

Images, and everything that surrounds them, can be manipulated: colors, words, gestures, intentions -- it all depends on the narrator. Any given reality may mean one thing, or its opposite, according to the interests of the one who narrates it. The government's spokespeople, the president himself, can narrate what happened at Neptuno Square as they please -- they do it every day. But, fortunately, in modern times, it is impossible to be the sole narrator, no matter how many punches cops dole out to anyone toting a camera (...)

EATING FOR HEALTH NOT WEIGHT

A widely publicized study earlier this year showed that a low-carb Atkins-type diet might be a faster way to lose weight. That may have given many people the idea that eating meat and butter is the route to thinness and thus health.

In 35 years of medical research, conducted at the nonprofit Preventive Medicine Research Institute, which I founded, we have seen that patients who ate mostly plant-based meals, with dishes like black bean vegetarian chili and whole wheat penne pasta with roasted vegetables, achieved reversal of even severe coronary artery disease. They also engaged in moderate exercise and stress-management techniques, and participated in a support group. The program also led to improved blood flow and significantly less inflammation which matters because chronic inflammation is an underlying cause of heart disease and many forms of cancer. We found that this program may also slow, stop or reverse the progression of early stage prostate cancer, as well as reverse the progression of Type 2 diabetes.

"SAM BECILE", OR NAKOULA B. NAKOULA GOES BACK TO JAIL....

BREAKING… UPDATE 5:45 PM: U.S. District Court Judge Suzanne Segal hasruled that the anti-Islam Innocence Of Muslims film producer known as Nakoula Basseley Nakoula will be held in the Metropolitan Detention Center after his arrest earlier today on probation violations. He will remain in the jail until a revocation hearing is scheduled. The judge said she was detaining him because ”the court has a lack of trust in the defendant”. She explained that he has engaged in a lengthy pattern of deception in a variety of situations, and that he poses “a danger to the community”. Nakoula today told the court that his real name is Mark Bacile Yousef. He is being cited on 8 probation violations for which the probation office is recommending 24 months in custody.

His lawyer Steven Seiden argued it would be a danger for Nakoula to be in custody in the Los Angeles County jail because of the large Muslim population there. U.S. Attorney Robert Dougdale said: “I’ve been assured that he’d be protected in custody. It’s likely he’d be safer in custody than out of custody.”

There was little mention of Nakoula’s crude film trailer whose posting on YouTube has sparked rioting, violence, and deaths in 30 countries in the Mideast, Europe, and Asia since 9/11. The prosecutor remarked that Nakoula’s pattern of deception extended to the hiring of the film’s actors. “They had no idea who he really was and no idea that he was a felon, and he parlayed that into the making of the film.” The prosecutor also indicated that Nakoula may have financed the film under deceptive circumstances. “Granted, if you look at the film, it doesn’t look like it cost much money.”

PREVIOUS 3:15 PM, BREAKING… There is a courtroom proceeding this afternoon in the Roybal Federal Building in Downtown LA regarding what the feds are saying is the arrest of Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, 55, reputed filmmaker of the anti-Islam film Innocence of Muslims which has sparked rioting, violence, and deaths in 30 countries in the Mideast, Europe, and Asia since 9/11. An initial appearance in USA v. Nakoula, 09-cr-00617-CAS, has been scheduled on or after 3 PM today. Nakoula was arrested for violating terms of his probation and is set for an initial appearance in U.S. District, which sentenced him in June 2009 following a bank fraud conviction. Federal officials were looking into whether Nakoula violated his probation in that case by uploading the crude film’s 14-minute trailer onto the Internet(...)

NEW YORK POST DECLARES THAT LA IS THE FUTURE!

It finally happened: New York City is admitting that Los Angeles is not just awesome, but a worthy rival ready to best any other urban center...including New York itself. Oh snap!

"Los Angeles is the future" declares the headline of a new article in the NY Post that examines four areas of our vast sprawl full of things to do, places to see, and delicious morsels to eat. It wasn't overnight, they'll grant, but we have "real transit," "truly walkable neighborhoods," and a legit food culture. "New York, watch your back," they caution. We like it!

The four neighborhoods the Post focuses on are Downtown, Venice, Mid-City West, and Hollywood, giving much virtual ink to the merits of each 'hood from culture to comestibles. And bonus: They aren't purely "hipster" parts of town. Instead, the focus is on the true gems that Angelenos themselves may have just recently learned to embrace. Seriously, did you ever expect a New Yorker to say this of our city, in describing Downtown's Handsome Roaster: "It’s one of many cafés across the Los Angeles Basin that is becoming a true community center in a city everyone said wasn’t interested in community."

That's right! We are not dismiss-able any more!

Food, food, and more food is gushed about, planting the seed (one can hope) for helping re-shape L.A. in the outsider's perspective as a real food city. Gone are the days of the micro-portions of "spa" cuisine and bland Chinese Chicken Salads. We're eating at Umamicatessen, Mo-Chica, Spice Table, Picca, Baco Mercat, Superba Snack Bar, Sunny Spot, Ray's and Stark Bar, Hatfield's, Animal, Son of a Gun, Sycamore Kitchen, Fonuts, Jitlada, and even Papaya King. Plus we're chowing down at the Hollywood Farmers' Market, and on delicious authentic (and affordable) Mexican fare Downtown. We're doing all right. Actually, we're doing great.

So why does what this one NY Post story say about L.A. matter? Well, the battle of the big cities has been going on for ages, and while this won't likely bring it to rest, it's nice to be recognized. Of course, according to the Post, at some point in the last decade "Los Angeles stopped giving a damn what you or we or anyone else had to say." Oh. Hmm. Well, maybe we do a little bit. Especially when it means we're part of a "future" less about diet fads and more about accessible, vibrant, urban culture.

Με αφορμή την υπόθεση του 27χρονου από την Εύβοια, ο οποίος δημιούργησε σελίδα στο Facebook με τίτλο «Γέροντας Παστίτσιος» και κατηγορείται για κακόβουλη βλασφημία και καθύβριση θρησκευμάτων, θα είχε ενδιαφέρον να δούμε την άποψη που είχε διατυπώσει ο ίδιος ο Γέροντας Παΐσιος για τη βλασφημία.
Γέροντα, όταν μιλούν κατά της Εκκλησίας η κατά του Μοναχισμού κ.λπ., τι πρέπει να κάνει κανείς;» το είχαν ρωτήσει.
«Κατ' αρχάς, αν κάποιος μιλάει άσχημα λ.χ. για σένα ως άτομο, δεν πειράζει. Να σκεφθείς: ‘’Τον Χριστό, που ήταν Χριστός, Τον έβριζαν, και δεν μιλούσε, εμένα που είμαι αμαρτωλός τι μου αξίζει’’. Αν έρχονταν να βρίσουν εμένα ως άτομο, δεν θα με πείραζε καθόλου. Άλλα, όταν με βρίζουν ως μοναχό, βρίζουν και όλο τον θεσμό του Μοναχισμού, γιατί ως μοναχός δεν είμαι ανεξάρτητος, και πρέπει να μιλήσω. Σε τέτοιες περιπτώσεις πρέπει κανείς να τους αφήσει λίγο να ξεσπάσουν και ύστερα να τους πει δύο κουβέντες», ήταν η απάντηση του Παΐσιου. 
«Όταν ένας θυμώσει και βλασφημήσει ακόμη και το Άγιο Πνεύμα, αυτή η βλασφημία δεν είναι ασυγχώρητη, γιατί ο άνθρωπος δεν πιστεύει την βρισιά που είπε, άλλα την είπε, επειδή εκείνη την στιγμή, πάνω στον θυμό του, έχασε τον έλεγχο του εαυτού του, και αμέσως μετανοιώνει. Ο αναιδής όμως δικαιολογεί το ψέμα, για να δικαιολογήσει την πτώση του. Όποιος δικαιολογεί την πτώση του, δικαιολογεί τον διάβολο».

Η ιδέα φάνηκε πολύ καλή στον 27χρονο Γέροντα Παστίτσιο-Λοΐζο που αποφάσισε να σκηνοθετήσει όντως ένα θαύμα του Γέροντα Παΐσιου! 


Όπως έγραφε ο ίδιος, πήρε μερικά θαύματα που αποδίδονται στον Γέροντα Παΐσιο, τα έβαλε στο μπλέντερ και «αφού τα ανακάτεψα καλά, εποίησα το νέο μου θαύμα που έλαβε χώνρα εις τας όμορφας και γραφικάς Σέρρας».


Το «θαύμα» είχε ως εξής. Ο 27χρονος Γιώργος Λοΐζος επινόησε δύο ανύπαρκτους χαρακτήρες, τον 18χρονο «Παντελή Κ.» κάτοικο κάποιου χωριού των Σερρών που βίωσε το υποτιθέμενο θαύμα του Παΐσιου και τον «υποδιάκονο Αμφιλόχιο» που δήθεν υπηρετεί στον Ιερό Καθεδρικό Ναό των Ταξιαρχών στις Σέρρες και στον οποίο ο νεαρός εξομολογήθηκε το θαύμα. 
Το στόρι του θαύματος ήταν επιμελώς σκηνοθετημένο ώστε να είναι πιστευτό. Ο Λοΐζος εμφάνιζε τον Παντελή Κ. ως τοξικομανή που υπό την επήρεια πιθανώς ναρκωτικών χτύπησε με τη μηχανή του με αποτέλεσμα να μπει στην μονάδα εντατικής θεραπείας του νοσοκομείου. Εκεί η μοίρα τον «χτύπησε» και με ενδονοσοκομειακή λοίμωξη με αποτέλεσμα να διαγνωστεί εγκεφαλικά νεκρός. Όμως την ημέρα των γενεθλίων του που υποτίθεται ότι συνέπιπτε με την ημέρα κοίμησης του Γέροντα, ο Παΐσιος έκανε το θαύμα του και «ανέστησε» τον 18χρονο. Μάλιστα, ο Λοΐζος πρόσθεσε και τις απαραίτητες πινελιές βάζοντας τον Παντελή να διηγείται ότι δήθεν έβλεπε τον Παΐσιο ενώ ήταν εγκεφαλικά νεκρός να του λέει: «Άντε σήκω παλικάρι μου να πας στη μαμά σου. Τα κόλυβα σου δε τα έχεις στο ζωνάρι. Θα αργήσουμε να τα φάμε». Προκειμένου να είναι πιο πιστευτή η ιστορία, ο Λοΐζος εμφάνιζε το κείμενο της διήγησης του θαύματος ως προδημοσίευση άρθρου σε ορθόδοξο αντιαιρετικό περιοδικό!

Διαβάστε παρακάτω το επινοημένο θαύμα-τρολιά του Γέροντα Παστίτσιου που ενόχλησε την Χρυσή Αυγή τόσο ώστε να το φέρει ως θέμα στη Βουλή (το iefimerida.gr έχει διατηρήσει την αρχική ορθογραφία):
«Το κείμενο που ακολουθεί είναι προδημοσιεύση άρθρου.Θα δημοσιευθεί στο ορθόδοξο αντιαιρετικό περιοδικό ΔΙΑΛΟΓΟΣ στο τεύχος Σεπτεμβρίου ( τον Αύγουστο δεν εκδίδεται ) αλλά λόγω της βαρύτητας του θαύματος,κρίθηκε σωστό να μαθευτεί νωρίτερα και από άλλα μέσα,για το καλό του ορθόδοξου ποιμνοίου στους δύσκολους καιρούς που περναέι η ευλογημένη πατρίδα μας.Υπάρχει και ενυπόγραφη δάδεια του εκδότη για όποιον τη θελήσει.
"Πριν μερικές εβδομάδες ακόμα ένα σύγχρονο θαύμα του γέροντος Παισιου έλαβε χώvρα σε ένα μικρό χωριό των Σερρών.Το περιέγραψε στον υποδιάκονο Αμφιλόχιο, του Ιερού Καθεδρικού Ναού των Ταξιαρχών Σερρών, ο βιώσας το θαύμα Παντελής Κ.

Ο Παντελής 18 ετών,νεος χρήστης ναρκωτικών ουσιών,είχε ένα τρομερό ατύχημα με το μηχανάκι του λίγο πιο έξω από το χωριο του με αποτέλεσμα να τραμαυτιστεί σοβαρά στο κεφάλι και να πάθει εγκεφαλική διάσειση. Πιθανότατα ήταν υπό την επίρροια ουσιών γιατί παρόλο που ήταν σε προγράμματα αποτοξίνωσης,το δαιμόνιο αυτό της ηρωίνης δεν έλεγε να βγει από μέσα του.Μπήκε εσπευμένα στην μονάδα εντατικής θεραπείας του Γενικού Νοσοκομείου Σερρών με κρανιοεγκεφαλικές κακώσεις.Οι γιατροί τον είχαν σε καταστολή και μετά και από ενδονοσοκομειακή μόλυνση ήταν σε κώμα με τελική γνωμάτευση ότι ήταν εγκεφαλικά νεκρός.Οι γιατροί μην έχοντας άλλα μέσα στη διάθεσή τους,σήκωσαν τα χέρια ψηλά και είπαν στην χαροκαμένη μητέρα του ότι ειναι στα χέρια του θεού.
Η ημερομηνία της τελικής γνωμάτευσης για εγκεφαλικό θάνατο ήταν η 13η Ιουλίου.Σε 1 ημέρα ο γιος της θα έκλεινε τα 18 του χρόνια,και αντί να μπει στην ενήλικη ζωή,τον έβλεπε στο κρεβάτι να παλεύει,όχι για τον γνωστό αγώνα κατά της μάστιγας των ναρκωτικών,αλλά τελείως άμεσα για την επιβίωσή του .Η αξιαγάπητη Κυρία Αναστασία δε το έβαλε κάτω.Με την προτροπή του Άγιου πνευματικου της , παππούλη Αθανάσιου,πήρε το ΚΤΕΛ για Θεσσαλονίκη την επόμενη ημέρα και κατευθυνθηκε προς την ιερά μονή ΑΓ.ΙΩΑΝΝΗΣ ΘΕΟΛΟΓΟΣ-ΣΟΥΡΩΤΗ.Γνώριζε για το μεγαλείο του γέροντα-Πα'ι'σίου , δε γνώριζε όμως οτι εκείνη την ημέρα 14 Ιουλίου συμπληρονώντουσαν 18 χρόνια απο την κοίμηση του γέροντα.
Όταν έφτασε και είδε τη λαοσύναξη απόρησε,αλλά οταν της είπαν οτι ο γέρωντας πέθανε την ίδια μέρα που γέννησε τον μονάκριβο γιο της κόντεψε να λιποθυμήσει.Ενιωσε κατι που δεν μπορει ακόμα να περιγράψει.Μια ένωση με το θείο,την αύρα του γέρωντα και γενικά ότι κάτι καλό θα βγει.
Παρόλη την κρισιμότητα της κατάστασης του γιού της , δε το χρησιμοποίησε σαν αιτία και περίμενε με ταπεινωση και γονατιστή πάνω από 4 ώρες μέχρι να έρθει η σειρά της να προσκυνήσει το μέρος όπου κοιμάται ο γέροντας-Πα'ι΄σιος.
Προσευχήθηκε για το σπλάχνο της και πήρε λίγο χώμα από το μνήμα, το οποίο χώμα το πήγε στον πνευματικότης, και ο οποίος αφού το διάβασε,έφτιαξε ένα αυτοσχεδιο φυλακτό.Η κυρία Αναστασία ΄ετρεξε στο νοσοκομείο και το εναπόθεσε κάτω από το μαξιλάρι του παιδιού της.
Το ίδιο κιόλας βράδυ είδε στον ύπνο της τον Γέροντα Παΐσιο να της λέει "Μη φοβάσαι, θα γίνει καλά ο Παντελής". 
Το επόμενο πρωί ο Παντελής συνήλθε υγιέστατος κάτι που οι γιατροί αδυνατούσαν να εξηγήσουν.Μια έντονη ευωδία είχε κατακλύσει το δωμάτιο και αργότερα διαπίστωσαν ότι αυτή η μυρωδιά, προέρχονταν από το μαξιλάρι του Παντελή, στο οπoίου η μητέρα του είχε τοποθετήσει κρυφά το φυλαχτό με το χώμα από τον τάφο του Γέροντα . Το μόνο που θυμάται ο Παντελής από το λήθαργο του, είναι η φιγούρα ενός μαυροφορεμένου γέροντα να του λέει : ' άντε σήκω παλικάρι μου να πας στη μαμά σου.τα κόλυβα σου δε τα έχεισ στο ζωνάρι.θα αργησουμε να τα φαμε'.
Ο Παντελής από εκείνο το πρωινό έχει μια αποστροφή για τα ναρκωτικά και υγιέστατος διαβάζει και προσπαθεί να μπει στο πανεπιστήμιο.Εξομολογείται στον πνευματικό της μητέρας του και θέλησε να μοιραστει το θαύμα που βίωσε η οικογένεια του , με τον υποδιάκονο Αμφιλόχιο.
"ο Θεός μερικές φορές, όταν κάποιος δεν καταλαβαίνη με το καλό, του δίνει μια δοκιμασία, για να συνέλθη. Αν δεν υπήρχε λίγος πόνος, αρρώστιες κ.λπ., θα γίνονταν θηρία οι άνθρωποι· δεν θα πλησίαζαν καθόλου στον Θεό." Γεροντας Παισιος»

Dear Governor Romney,
I’d like to say congratulations on winning the republican nomination. But, I wish you stayed in Massachusetts. You’re plan for America isn’t what we need, and would hurt us more than it would help.

First, repealing Obama care and other health plans he’s put in place have helped families across America, including mine. I live in a middle class family, and two years ago my little sister; Kennedy was denied insurance because of her pre-existing condition. This was a huge emotional stress and financial burden on my entire family. Under Obama Care, insurance companies can no longer deny Kennedy and kids like her, the coverage they need and deserve. Because of Obama care my little sister was able to have the several surgeries she needed that helped save her life. Once the President was elected he put Obama Care into action, just like he promised and made it so that you could get insurance with pre-existing conditions. This has made a direct impact on my family. My family is with out a doubt better off now, than we were four years ago!

It is to my understanding that you stated that you were going to repeal Obama Care, including the part I have mentioned, which will take away the insurance we have and need for my sister Kennedy. Why do you think she doesn’t deserve health care? Also, when you were interviewed on “Meet the Press”, you stated that you would NOT repeal this part of Obama Care, but then your campaign backpedalled and on the “Tonight show with Jay Leno”, you said that you WOULD repeal this.

Also, you’re domestic plans (birth control, gay rights etc.) are horrible! Women should get to manage their own health, and if you wonder why you’re not appealing to many women voters, rethink your birth control and women’s’ rights plans. And people should be able to marry whom they want. We built this country so people could have freedom, and not have religious beliefs control them to that length. This country was in no way built on any religion, so we should not create laws that repress the American people in a religious way and hurt our most vulnerable.

Dear Colleagues:

Today we are announcing that Tom Rothman will step down as Chairman and CEO of Fox Filmed Entertainment at the end of this year.   Jim Gianopulos, who has led the business with Tom since 2000, will expand his leadership role as its sole Chairman and CEO.

We would like to extend our appreciation to Tom for the critical role he has played in building our film studio into an industry leader.  His legacy includes many of the biggest films of the last few decades as well as the creation of our indie powerhouse Fox Searchlight.  We wish Tom all the best and know he will have continued success in his next chapter.

With a robust slate of upcoming films and Jim’s continued leadership, our film unit is well positioned for future growth and couldn’t be in better hands.  We are confident that Jim’s stellar business and creative acumen will take our film business to new heights.

We’re also announcing that Twentieth Century Fox Television will now become a stand-alone business unit within News Corporation, and will no longer be part of our film operations.   As a result, its Co-Chairs Dana Walden and Gary Newman will now report directly to Chase.   With a track record of hits like Homeland, Glee, Modern Family, American Horror Story and Sons of Anarchy, they are unquestionably one of the best creative teams in the television business and we look forward to working more closely with them.  In addition, to reflect this new structure, our film business will now assume the name Twentieth Century Fox Film.

DEADLINE.COM: CAST AND CREW DENOUNCE POST-PRODUCTION ALTERATIONS TO "DESERT WARRIOR" NOW "INNOCENCE OF MUSLIMS". DOES "SAM BACILE" REALLY EXISTS?....

(...)– Purported writer, director and producer Sam Bacile has no credits on any movie industry database. SAG-AFTRA tells Deadline they have no information about the film and the DGA confirms they have no Sam Bacile on record.

– A man calling himself Bacile spoke by telephone from an undisclosed location with news outlets on Tuesday. He was alternately reported to be a 52-year-old Israeli-American real estate developer in California and a 56-year-old Israeli Jew.

– Records searches in the U.S. turned up nothing on a Sam Bacile, media outlets report and Yigal Palmor, spokesman for the Israeli Foreign Ministry, told The New York Times, “He is totally unknown in filmmaking circles in Israel.”

– A casting notice for a film called Desert Warrior that ran in Backstage last year and which is believed to be the original advertisement for the film, lists the producer as “Sam Bassiel.” It also lists a director, Alan Roberts.

–The BBC says a film believed to be Innocence Of Muslims, but called The Innocence Of Bin Laden, screened at Hollywood’s Vine Theatre on June 30. An attendee said the film lasted an hour with just a few people there. He claimed the organizer was an Egyptian living in the U.S.

– The YouTube profile ‘Sam Bacile’ was used to post clips of the film on July 1 and posted comments as recently as Tuesday this week. It lists the age of the account holder at 74.

– Bacile said he raised $5M from about 100 Jewish donors to make the film.

–Steve Klein, a self-described militant Christian activist in Riverside, Calif., told CNN he worked with Bacile on the movie and said the filmmaker had gone into hiding. But he told The Atlantic on Wednesday that Bacile is a pseudonym.

(...)–A man identified as Nakoula Basseley Nakoula told the AP that he was manager for the company that produced the movie and said he knew Bacile. But the cell phone number the AP had for Bacile traced back to the address where the wire agency inteviewed Nakoula.

CNN received a statement from the 80 or so people in front of and behind the cameras denouncing the film they say they worked on without knowing it was propaganda. The statement reads:

“The entire cast and crew are extremely upset and feel taken advantage of by the producer. We are 100% not behind this film and were grossly misled about its intent and purpose. We are shocked by the drastic rewrites of the script and lies that were told to all involved. We are deeply saddened by the tragedies that have occurred.”

Cindy Lee Garcia, an actress who appears in clips of the film on YouTube, told Reuters she answered a casting call last year for Desert Warrior. She said shooting took place inside a church near L.A. in the summer of 2011. About 50 actors were involved, she told Reuters. Garcia said her character was forced to give away her child to a character named Master George, who is listed in the casting call. But in scenes from the trailer, Garcia’s lines appear dubbed over with another voice referring to Mohammad rather than George.
