TIME magazine readers voted protesters—from Occupy Wall Street to the violent streets of Athens—as Person Of The Year and “DECEMBER RIOTS,” written, produced and directed by Dimitri Vorris, depicts exactly that.

The film's epicenter is the cold-blooded execution of 15 year-old student Alexander Gregoropoulos by two policemen in a downtown Athens café on December 6, 2008. "December Riots," is a film about the Gregoropoulos killing, an incident that sparked riots in over seventy cities and twenty-two countries worldwide including the USA. The independently financed, claustrophobic thriller, focuses on a group of Europeans and Americans trapped in an art-house movie theater in downtown Athens during the 2008 riots.

Το μόνο κοινό που τους ενώνει είναι o φόβος τους και η άρνηση τους να αντιμετωπίσουν και να αλλάξουν την πραγματικότητα. Κατά τα άλλα τους χωρίζουν έριδες, μικρότητες, συνωμοσίες, μίση και πάθη. YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE mood video

...Through the voices of these four women in the film, we begin to understand the complexity of the everyday challenges and the relationship issues they are facing (one out of eight women in USA is going to face the challenge of breast cancer). And hopefully, we can transform ourselves, alter our perspectives, and, ultimately, change our own complicated and distorted relationships and attitudes towards breast-cancer patients.

The mood, pace and overall tone of the film is unique since it is elevated far above the drama of the four leading female characters. They are searching for the light in the end of the tunnel. They remain optimistic and humorous even in the worst of circumstances and challenges they are facing. Life goes on and you have to rise above adversities and obstacles. You have to re-invent yourself.

A heartfelt screenplay about finding the courage to change and fall in love again after life (and others) had let you down...

THE GREEK SECRET VIDEO: "PHILOTIMO"

Leading Greek-Americans Explain Why Hellenic Excellence Throughout History May Result From The Uniquely Greek Word “Philotimo”

Arianna Huffington, George Stephanopoulos, Bob Costas and Greek Orthodox Archbishop of America Demetrios are among the nationally-known Greek-Americans who appear in video titled The Greek Secret produced by the Washington Oxi Day Foundation. The video suggests that the secret to extraordinary Hellenic excellence -- personally and as a people -- may spring from the uniquely Greek word philotimo.

This video features interviews with 29 leading Hellenes who each share their definition of a concept that only the Greek language has one word to describe: philotimo. Those interviewed defined philotimo as not only the "love of honor" but also as finding pleasure in sacrificing for: the good of others; doing the right thing; improving themselves and their families; and seeking to achieve respect and love from others.

"While it has not been released to the public until now, we gave a small number of Foundation supporters a sneak peek at this video over the weekend. It has already received over 10,000 views. Our prediction that this video can be transformational for our community and may help the Greek brand may be coming true," said Oxi Day Foundation Founder and President, Andrew Manatos.

The Foundation and many of those interviewed believe that "philotimo" may in great part explain the Greeks' spectacular achievements throughout history, as well as their close family and community relationships. The video highlights such Hellenic achievements as: the miraculous leap forward that the ancient Greeks brought to humankind’s standard of living and freedom; Greece being identified by America, Great Britain and Russia as the only other country essential to the defeat of Hitler; the Greeks’ unsurpassed response to the Holocaust; and Hellenes alone in America's 20th century rising from universal, uneducated poverty to ranking among the top in education and income.

Unarmed, and not dangerous, Alexandros was murdered by two policemen while sitting at a downtown cafe. In cold blood..... Gregropoulos, the innocent victim of police brutality, became an instant martyr for his generation.

MATT TAIBI: ANOTHER BATCH OF WALL STREET VILLAINS FREED ON TECHNICALITY DURING THANKSGIVING

I love covering trials, which is one reason I've been a little sad since switching over to the Wall Street beat: Few of the bad guys in this world ever even get interviewed by the authorities, much less indicted, so trials are comically rare.

But we did have one last year, a big one, and though it was boring and jargon-laden enough on the surface that at least one juror fought sleep in its opening days, I thought it was fascinating. In a story about the Justice Department's Spring 2012 prosecution of a wide-raging municipal bond bid-rigging case, I called it the "first trial of the modern American mafia":

"Of course, you won't hear about the recent financial corruption case, United States of America v. Carollo, Goldberg and Grimm, called anything like that . . . But this just completed trial in downtown New York . . . allowed federal prosecutors to make public for the first time the astonishing inner workings of the reigning American crime syndicate, which now operates not out of Little Italy and Las Vegas, but out of Wall Street."

Dominick Carollo, Steven Goldberg and Peter Grimm were mid-level players who worked for GE Capital. They were involved in a wide-ranging scheme (one that also involved most of America's biggest banks, from Chase to BOA to Wachovia) to skim billions of dollars from America's cities and towns by rigging the auctions banks set up to help towns earn the highest returns on the management of municipal bond issues.

The team responsible for the likes of "Sweetgrass," "Foreign Parts" and this year's mesmerizing festival offering "Manakamana" truly forged new ground with "Leviathan," an expressonistic look at life onboard (and slightly off-board) a fishing boat in Massachusetts. Though they claim not to call themselves filmmakers, directors Lucien Castaing-Taylor and Verena Paravel have certainly made a movie unlike anything preceding it (...)

EGYPTIAN GOVERNMENT: FREE TAREK LOUBANI AND JOHN GREYSON

On Friday August 16th, Tarek Loubani, a Canadian emergency physician and John Greyson, a Canadian filmmaker and professor were arrested by Egyptian authorities. Tarek and John were on their way to Gaza --  where Tarek was to work at Al Shifa Hospital, and John to explore the possibility of making a film about the work.

Days later, Tarek and John are still being held in Cairo's Tora prison.Egyptian officials have given no clear reason for their arrest.  In fact, a recent press release by a Cairo district prosecution states that 9 foreigners, including John and Tarek, will be detained for 15 days, pending investigations.  Egypt is going through a turbulent time, and after hundreds were killed in violent clashes last week, foreigners, particularly journalists are being targeted. We need to get our friends out of there.

On Sunday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on Egyptian authorities to "release all evidence" against Tarek and John, but we believe it will take ongoing public outcry in order to force the Canadian and Egyptian Governments to find a resolution and secure their freedom.

Family and friends are worried sick about their safety. Pressure from the Canadian government is our best hope. We must pressure our government to demand their freedom and pressure the Egyptian authorities to let them go.  Thank you for your action on this urgent matter!

We, the undersigned, ask the Government of Egypt to release Canadians Tarek Loubani, MD, and John Greyson, filmmaker, who were arrested in Egypt on August 16th. As well, we ask the Canadian Government to continue to work with the Egyptian Embassy and officials in Egypt to ensure their safety and immediate release.

Dr. Loubani is an emergency physician at the University of Western Ontario (UWO) and a member of Canadian Doctors for Refugee Care. He has worked extensively to provide volunteer medical care in conflict situations internationally and for refugees in Canada. Award-winning Toronto filmaker, writer, and educator, John Greyson, is a Professor at York University in the Department of Film.

Dr. Loubani and Professor Greyson were travelling to the Gaza Strip, where they are working on an international academic and medical collaboration between the University of Western Ontario and the main hospital in the Gaza Strip, the al-Shifa hospital. They arrived in Egypt on August 15th, and were held up from crossing into Gaza due to the conflict in Egypt. On the afternoon of Friday, August 16th, their contact in Canada received a call from Dr. Loubani, stating that: "we are being arrested by Egyptian police." Their whereabouts have been unknown since, and colleagues and family are extremely worried for their safety.

Conditions in Egypt are extremely dangerous with accounts of widespread military and police violence. According to Amensty International “unprecedented levels of violence have left more than 600 dead in Egypt”, further Amnesty also notes a “pattern of excessive and unwarranted lethal force used by the Egyptian authorities since the 25 January revolution”. More than 4,000 people have been injured in recent days.

Our thoughts are with the many people in Egypt who have been arrested, beaten and killed.

PITSIRIKOS: Η "ΚΑΛΗ" ΚΑΙ Η "ΚΑΚΗ" ΧΡΥΣΗ ΑΥΓΗ, Ο ΡΟΛΟΣ ΤΩΝ ΜΝΗΜΟΝΙΑΚΩΝ ΜΜΕ ΚΑΙ ΗΟΙΚΟΝΟΜΙΚΗ ΕΞΑΘΛΙΩΣΗ ΤΩΝ ΕΛΛΗΝΩΝ (ΕΠΙΣΤΟΛΗ ΑΝΑΓΝΩΣΤΗ)

Τόσα πολλά σύννεφα από τα οποία ξαφνικά όλοι πέφτουν, δε δικαιολογούνται κι ας είναι φθινόπωρο! Αυτό το θέατρο του παραλόγου έχει καταντήσει αηδία. Μα για πόσο καθυστερημένους μας περνάνε; Επί τουλάχιστον ενάμισι χρόνο η συμμορία των ΜΜΕ έδινε βήμα σε μια όχι απλά ναζιστική, αλλά απροκάλυπτα παρακρατική παραστρατιωτική οργάνωση και:

- Της έχτιζαν φιλολαϊκό και δήθεν αντισυστημικό προφίλ με κατασκευασμένα «ρεπορτάζ» και συνεντεύξεις (αντί να ψάξουν με τη μέθοδο «follow the money» να βρουν τους εφοπλιστικούς και παραθρησκευτικούς κύκλους που τους χρηματοδοτούν).

- Κάνανε μόκο για κάθε καραμπινάτη παρανομία τους, από πλημμελήματα μέχρι βαριά κακουργήματα, πολλά εκ των οποίων με μπάτσους παραδίπλα να κοιτάνε αμέτοχοι.

- Έκρυβαν τη συμμετοχή τους με πολιτικά δίπλα στα ΜΑΤ στην καταστολή κάθε διαδήλωσης.

- Το βούλωναν για τα αποτελέσματα στα εκλογικά τμήματα των αστυνομικών που τους έδιναν ακόμη και 50% ποσοστά.

- Σιωπούσαν για τη δράση τους στα σχολειά μας, και τόσα άλλα που ξαφνικά «ανακαλύπτουν», ο κατάλογος δεν έχει τέλος…

Και από προχθές, βλέπουμε σε όλα αυτά τα βολεμένα πουλημένα πιόνια που ξεφτιλίζουν κάθε έννοια ρεπορτάζ και δημοσιογραφίας, στροφή 180 μοιρών!

Μα δε ντρέπεστε λιγάκι; Νομίζετε μπορεί να κρυφτεί το πόσο ελεεινά (δεν) κάνατε τόσο καιρό τη δουλειά σας; Νομίζετε ότι είμαστε όλοι λοβοτομημένοι από την ανέχεια και τη δυστυχία και δε βλέπουμε τη γραμμή που έπεσε άνωθεν;

Ότι δηλαδή έφτασε η ώρα να χωρίσετε τη Χρυσή Ομελέτα σε «καλή» και «κακή» (όπως με τις ιερές σας τράπεζες), να μαντρώσετε πίσω στη μαμά ΝΔ τους μισούς και να συνεργαστείτε με τους άλλους «σοβαρούς» μισούς, μπας και σώσετε τα μνημόνια και τα τομάρια σας;

Και παράλληλα, μέσα στο ντόρο να περάσετε και καμιά ντουζίνα μέτρα, που με το προηγούμενο σκηνικό ογκούμενης δυσαρέσκειας (απεργίες, διαδηλώσεις κλπ.) δύσκολα θα περνάγατε;

Α, και μην ξεχάσω: να ετοιμάσετε και καμιά καλή προβοκάτσια τύπου Marfin (αλήθεια, αυτή η πάντα αποτελεσματική αστυνομία απέναντι σε κάθε είδους αντιεξουσιαστικούς πυρήνες, πώς και δεν έχει συλλάβει τόσα χρόνια τους συγκεκριμένους εγκληματίες;

Μήπως ξεκάθαρα πρόκειται για παρακρατικούς προβοκάτορες και τους κρύβουνε;).

Όχι τίποτα άλλο, γιατί αυτά τα άπλυτα αναρχοκομμούνια δείχνουν ώριμα και συγκρατημένα, δε μοιάζουν μετά τον άνανδρο χαμό του Φύσσα να πατάνε την πεπονόφλουδα της αγανάκτησης και της ρεβάνς.

Άρα, μια καλή προβοκάτσια θα χρειαστεί, μπας και μαζί με κάποιους αποδιοπομπαίους ναζήδες – στυμμένες λεμονόκουπες (τους λοιπούς θα τους ενσωματώσετε όπως τους Βοριδογεωργιάδηδες) ξεμπερδέψετε ταυτόχρονα και με αυτούς τους περίεργους «ακραίους» στα γαλατικά χωριά της Χαλκιδικής και όλους όσους – όπου αλλού – τολμάνε να επιμένουν και να σηκώνουν κεφάλι…

(Δε νομίζω ότι θέλει πολύ μυαλό για να δει κανείς τα παραπάνω, το θέμα είναι τι αντανακλαστικά θα δείξει η αντιπολίτευση σε όλα αυτά τα θλιβερά σενάρια που εξυφαίνονται…)

SUCCESS STORY IN ATHENS, GREECE (PHOTOS)

"MUNICH" SUPERB SUPPORTING ACTOR MICHAEL GIANNATOS DEAD FROM HEART ATTACK

He studied in Konstantinos Demopoulos' school of drama and first appeared as a professional actor in Georgios Zervoulakos' film Oi stigmatismenoi in 1966. He participated in the theatrical play Capetan Michalis next to respected actor Manos Katrakis.

During his long cinematic career, he appeared in close to 100 films, television series and plays. He was a regular in Theodoros Angelopoulos films since he was one of the director's favorite actors.

He was fluent in five languages; Greek, Turkish, French, Italian and Spanish.He appeared in many international productions, including Midnight Express, Captain Corelli's Mandolin and Munich and more. He worked with great actors like Anthony Quinn, John Hurt, Nicholas Cage, Penélope Cruz, Christian Bale, Eric Bana and Daniel Craig.

He also played in the film A Touch of Spice (Politiki kouzina ) ] by Tassos Boulmetis,and n the European co-production Le Dernier Seigneur des Balkans.

Giannatos died on September 17, 2013 at the age of 72 due to a heart attack, while watching a football match with friends.
